Coding and Animation Magnet (CAM)

Coding & Animation

Coding and Animation:

From problem solving, to web development to interactive animations and games: our program inspires students as they build their own websites, apps, games, and physical computing devices!

students coding

In Web Development our students begin by thinking about the role of the web, and how it can be used as a medium for creative expression before creating their own personal web pages. As they develop their pages and begin to see themselves as programmers, they are encouraged to think critically about the impact of sharing information online and how to be more critical content consumers. They are also introduced to problem solving as it relates to programming, as they learn valuable skills such as debugging, using resources, and teamwork. At the conclusion, students work together to create a website.

In the Animations and Games unit, our students build on their coding experience as they create programmatic images, animations, interactive art, and games. Starting off with simple, primitive shapes and building up to more sophisticated sprite-based games, students become familiar with the programming concepts and the design process computer scientists use daily. They then learn how these simpler constructs can be combined to create more complex programs.

VEX IQ Robotics

VEX IQ Robotics:

VEX IQ enables engaging classroom and competitive robotics that inspires students with a complete STEM experience! Students can easily build their first robot, and the wide variety of additional parts means that students can build a robot that is bigger, stronger, and more functional as students continue to learn.

robotics

We get started coding with VEXcode, a coding environment with an intuitive layout that meets students at their coding level, allowing our students to focus on creating with technology, rather than navigating a new layout as they progress.

We participate throughout the year in a wide range of competitions: robot skills, driving skills, teamwork challenges…Our proud school team (99991A) the Blue Eagles has gone all the way to the State and World VEX IQ championship!

3D Printing

3D Printing:

Our students bring STEM projects to life with logical and creative thinking, the design process, and collaboration: in our program, they learn to create 3D models using the application Tinkercad, so they are able to create solutions for different real-life challenges by designing and building objects with 3D printers.

Python Programming

Programming with PYTHON:

Python is a popular general-purpose programming language that can be used for a wide variety of applications. Our students learn key elements of Python, through interactive coding challenges and by building interactive projects and games.
